Insulin Resistance

Ok so on my last blog I mentioned something that almost none of you guys knew about me because I just found out but maybe nobody read my blog because only Katy commented on it.

After I had Garrett I started to go to the gym 4 days a week and was watching what I ate pretty well but still wasn't losing any weight. My feet were still swollen from the pregnancy and they had started to tingle. Never a good sign. My arms would get these pains from them swelling every so often that I would cry because it hurt so bad. So my mom told me to go to the dr.

Of course, I always do what I am told. J/K. So I went to the OBGYN and she said that she needed to take my blood. They took 4 vials. AHHHH. I hate needles. She did a test for diabetes, and stuff like that. She also noticed that my blood pressure was high. The tests came back that my blood sugar level was 175 and it was supposed to be about 60 or 70. So I needed to come back in two weeks for an insulin resistance test.

She gave me some pills for my swelling. The bottle said that it will induce frequent peeing. My thoughts are "great, because I don't pee enough already after having 2 kids."

Now, those of you that have had kids and I think everyone on here has, had probably taken the test where you have to drink that nasty syrup stuff to see if you have gestational diabetes. I don't know how to spell it. Well with this test you have to drink more, fast for 12 hours before, (so it does wonders on your stomach) and they draw your blood 5 freakin times.

So I go to the dr. and they draw my blood to make sure that my fasting sugar level is where it's supposed to be because if not I cannot take the test that day. Well they decide to just leave the needle in me since they have to draw my blood every half hour for the next 2 hours. JOYOUS.

I found out the next day that I am severly insulin restance. I have to now, limit my carb and sugar intake. As well as my sodium intake. I can eat as many normal veggies as I want. Except corn and potatoes. But I have to watch my fruit. Well at least the fruit that is glucose based not fructose based. Ahhhhh and no pop. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Anyway, I just wanted to tell everyone the latest update in the Days of our lives.

UGH! i'm sorry dude. I hope it makes you feel better though. Sorry about all the blood they took. I hate that too. The IV was one of the worst parts of child birth. Keep us posted.

Oh boy, Tiffany- I totally UNDERSTAND what you had to go through (I had to GIVE the I.R. tests at the lab, poor patients had to be there ALL MORNING LONG) I'm sorry you had to go through that. In a way, glad you got answers to the issues, now you're on the way to getting symptoms under control... but giving up all the good food- you're a trooper. I couldn't do it! But the next time we see you you're gonna be SKIIIIINNNNYYYYY~~~ oo la la!

That sucks! At least now you can get it under control, though. My mom was having all these weird crazy symptoms (and actually thought she was going crazy because of what her symptoms were) only to find out that she was hypoglycemic. That blood sugar level can really do a number on your body if it's not balanced. I'm glad you figured out what's wrong and that it is something that can be controlled.
